Final assignment submitted ABCC1103

I am exhausted. Stressed. Fat. Lonely.

HA HA HA HA. All this Korean OST’s on my Spotify list is making me sappy but ironically beautiful inside. – __ – Korean songs give you that pretty lead actress effect. I cannot help feeling very dreamy while listening to these songs although I haven’t seen most of the drama on the OST list. I cannot wait for my exams to be over so that I could binge on Vincenzo Cassano. Grrrrr..

Phase 2 of Malaysia’s vaccination programme is starting soon. I am so glad that I applied for a day off this Friday. I needed that rest before I am reassigned to various working locations in the many months to come. An altercation happened at the workplace between ‘two elephants’. Me and my friends are trying very hard not to be the deer caught in between. Anyway, I am so glad that ABCC1103 is over.

ABCC 1103 – Introduction to communication

I actually overlooked that my assignment had 2 parts to complete. The essay and the 5 minute video presentation. As always, the expression is ‘nak tergugok jantung/ mok pisan nyawa’ when I realized my mistake. I was already struggling with the essay. This assignment reminded me of the horrible semester I went through in Sem 2 – that feeling when I thought I did well only to discover that I got a B minus for my essay. Adehhh.. and I had thought I could get at least a B+. Or an A minus. Tapi tkpe.. yg tuh dah lepas.

So, for my video I decided to do mine like some sort of Live interview with an influential figure during primetime news. That influential figure being me of course. I downloaded free video templates of the news studio from Youtube and then I got stuck. Ha ha ha. I did not know how to put myself inside the template. After intense googling – I learned that I needed to record myself with a green screen. I was tempted to buy a 4M green cloth from Kamdar or Gulati’s but thought wiser. Celah mana nak pegi tu.. nak ambik bebudak sekolah lagi.

On further research, I discovered that we could use a blue screen or even of other colours as long as it doesn’t match your face and the clothes you wear. It seems that I could use red although my complexion would look a bit odd due to the underlying red colour tone everybody has (I think?). Still, I gave it a shot. Although my husband thought I was weird. ha ha.

I recorded myself in front of the red curtains I have in my living room.

I tried using the green curtains I have at my workplace but I guess the green wasn’t bright enough, so it didn’t work.

Using the free version of Kinemaster, I was able to use the Chroma key button and make that red screen invisible so that I could appear in the video template as a news anchor. The rest was just the layer editing I have come to be more well versed now as compared to before. Studying in OUM has definitely sharpened my skills in using digital technology to complete my assignments.

It is not perfect and I have no idea what the outcome will be. Either way, as the saying goes..

There is no day in which you learn something is a complete loss

Printing my module and listening to Ali Abdaal

It is a race against time. To not only keep up with my notes , e-tutorials and e-lessons but also my assignments. So, I decided to just print out (part of ) my module so I could read it at work in between my patients using my highlighter and make scribbles on it. I figured once I get the note part out of the way, I could afterwards concentrate on binge listening to my e tutorials during my commute to work and return from it.

I was watching Youtube over the weekend and stumbled upon one of Ali Abdaal’s videos. The last time I watched his video was when he was a medical student. I am not sure if he is still a medical doctor but he seems to be doing really well as this Youtube Guru and all. He is probably a millionaire.

Anyway, I noted that there were a few videos of him talking about the evidence-based study methods. I was blown away. Like wow, I couldn’t even find the time to read and critic a journal for my assignments, what more exploring on this subject in a very scientific manner. I mean, I wouldn’t accept nothing less coming from this genius either. I have only managed to sit in his mini lecture on Spaced Repetition and Active Recall because I spent the rest of my available hours doing house chores and handling the kids. Nevertheless, I will surely subscribe and watch/listen his other videos in my car. I love that his videos has an outline of what he wants to talk about and damn, this guy talks very fast. His handwriting must be epic!

Even now I am reading a book that he recommended which is called Show Your Work by Austin Kleon. I had a 2 pound credit in my e-wallet and so I managed to buy it at less than a fiver on Google Play. It is a wonderful book so far, I think I can finish it by the end of this week. Will put this in my highlight on my IG story. I have an IG account designated for my studies at hobominci. My virtual shopping cart at Kinokuniya is also piling up with books. I am just hoarding them in my cart until I get to a time when I feel motivated enough to click Checkout. Maybe by the end of this semester.

OUM Emerald Quiz

Came across this on the library’s FB page.

Since this is an academic sorta quiz, I allocated some time earlier this morning to have a look. I don’t think answering the quiz would be in 5 mins especially when Emerald wanted to introduce their database. I am sure it would involve some searching and reading.

So at 5AM I prepared my Essenso coffee and a banana. I am already up at this hour most days lately since I have gotten used to it in Ramadhan. Occasionally, I would wake up at 6AM.

And yes, it did took me about an hour to finish it. I obtained an 8/10 score. There is no limit in participation. So, InsyaAllah I will try again later. I still hutang a few topics to read this weekend across my 3 subjects.

My assignment marks are out

I am satisfied with my marks and comments made by the examiner. I acknowledge that there are areas that needs improvement especially the formatting and referencing part. Nama pun belajar kan.. so learn we must. Awal2 memang tak perfect lagi.

My assignment for Tamadun Islam dan Tamadun Asia, TITAS (MPU3323) on Nujum Pak Belalang scored 56.75% over a total of 70%. I did the task diligently, following the rubric guidelines attached to it. I feel that even if you are at lost at what to write, the rubric can help you. Aim for the best column mark because it seems that even in the best column, there are gradings from a weak-strong to a strong-strong point.

As you can see, my APA part needed more work.

My sources to help me for the TITAS write-up were mostly online journals but I got help with regards to the language form from books at the Melaka public library. I read on Malay literatures and proper DBPish magazines just to get a nice lenggok to the language. In a way, I can insert peribahasa, kiasan and perumpaan’s appropriately in my essay to make it a nice read. So that bila baca ada macam pantun or gurindam sikit. We want the examiner to feel intrigued and delighted to read our essay.

My other assignment is for the Learning Skills (OUMH1603) subject around Good Citizenship EDucation (GCED) and I chose the topic of Biodiversity. I have probably said it a lot of times, I really enjoyed writing about it and I made sure my examiner knew about it. Again, my guide is the rubric chart provided alongside the assignment. I achieved 50.25% over a total of 60% for this.

In this assignment, I highlighted the problem of Periuk Kera near extinction with regards to the Lemang Periuk Kera and of an individual, Jadav ‘Molai’ Payeng who replanted a forest in India. One of the most helpful sources I looked into while writing about this is the Biodiversity Course playlist on the California Academy of Sciences channel on YouTube. I understood the theories from our OUM handbook better after watching the videos. YouTube is an excellent resource for assignment write-ups. You can use the words and even some great sentences because it does not go through the similarity check unless it is written down somewhere and available on the internet.

All assignments go through a similarity check and different ranges of percentage warrants respective mark deductions. Since both of my essays had less than 30% , no marks were deducted. If say, a student has between 30.01 – 50% from the check, 5 marks are deducted and the list goes on. It is just not worth it. Do the assignments on your own, do not hire third party help. Do not copy a friends essay even though they are at a different learning centre. Write from the brain with passion. LOL.

I can’t give access to my essays at the moment.

Not until I have gotten my marks from other parts of the examination. Once I am pass that, only then I can upload my essay. Thank you for your understanding. I hope my other results are OK too. Wish me luck.

Busy bee week

I had a lot of time to do some reading on my Kindle this week. I managed to finish Ichigo Ichie by Hector Garcia within 24 hours. Ichigo Ichie is in a way about mindfulness and reinforces the idea that each moment is precious and each great opportunities must be seized. It is not an entirely new idea for me but it is a great book all the same when you need some light reading and a ‘pick me up’ sorta mood. Remind me to update my GoodReads shelf.

The Book of Ichigo Ichie by Héctor García, Francesc Miralles ...

I am also reading a textbook related to my course so that I wouldn’t forget the many psychological theories, having had this long 2 week break after exams. It is called Essentials of Psychology Concepts and Applications by Jeffrey S. Nevid. I have no idea if it will be a great read but it seems to have the chapters that I need.

I like how in the introduction they give one useful study tips as a student. Apart from prepping before class and being punctual, the author also suggested that for every hour of class should be backed up with 2 hours of extra studying. I thought that was a good statement cause sometimes I am clueless at how much I need to study for a module.

I feel that in a course using a lot of words, I need to read up more so I could explain the concept in my own words using explanations that resonates best with me. I found this textbook online although I actually prefer reading from a hard copy. If only, a university bookstore is nearby.

I am also organizing my notes and resources. For now, I am following Dr Alizi Alias on Facebook because he is the only person I know that is ‘certified’ in proper psychology. I have yet to explore on other credible mentors within this field. If possible, a non clinical psychologist. Shoot me names!

Recently, I enrolled in an online course due to InsyaAllah happen in June. This course is organized by a Syeikh Hasan and is held over the weekend with about 3 hours each session. The early bird fee is 15GBP. An investment of ilm!

I hope to gain more insight on this subject from an Islamic perspective. In fact, I have bought a related Islamic related psychology book but it has yet to arrive by post. It is apparently quite famous in the psychology world especially among muslims.

To be honest, I had no idea that as muslims we would be facing dilemmas in this field. So, I guess this is good to know. I really have to thank my bookworm friend for finding this gem for me even though she doesn’t take psychology. I hope the book arrives next week. I can’t wait!
